Inclusive practice

Our Preschool is inclusive and we believe all children have a need to develop, which is helped by exploring and discovering the people and things around them. We believe it is important to identify the need for additional support as early as possible. Without it children will not get the help they need at the right time, in the way that is right for them. Early support for children includes listening to families and taking part in a sensitive two-way exchange of information. For children with severe or complex additional support needs we plan jointly with everyone involved to co-ordinate support and promote learning as effectively as possible. We encourage children to recognise their own unique qualities and the characteristics they share with other children. We actively promote equal opportunities and anti-discriminatory practice, and work to ensure that all children and families feel included, safe and valued.

Safeguarding

Our Preschool has a duty under the law to ensure children are safe guarded against suspected or actual significant harm. Our employment practices ensure children against the likelihood of abuse in our setting and we have procedures for managing complaints or allegations against a member of staff. Our way of working with children and their parents aims to encourage the sharing of problems, worries and concerns that often emerge through the stresses and strains of family life. We can offer support, including referral to appropriate sources of help when necessary, to help families who are experiencing difficulties.

Achieving positive behaviour

Our Preschool believes that children flourish best when their personal, social and emotional needs are met and where there are clear and developmentally appropriate expectations for their behaviour.

Children need to learn to consider the views and feelings, needs and rights, of others and the impact that their behaviour has on people, places and objects. This is a task that requires support, encouragement, teaching and setting the correct example. The principals that underpin how we achieve positive and considerate behaviour exist within the programme for promoting personal, social and emotional development.

Healthy eating

Our Preschool promotes healthy eating practices. Our lunch club offers children the opportunity to share a mealtime with their friends. We will encourage your child to develop good table manners and to learn about healthy eating and good nutrition. We ask that you pack your child a healthy packed lunch, members of staff share lunch times too and we spend our time encouraging your child to eat all of the food you provide for them. We encourage children to eat food from the main food groups first before eating treats. You will find a guide to packed lunches included in this welcome pack, if you are unsure or need advice please come and see a member of staff we are more than happy to discuss healthy eating with you.
